How to remove Enterprise Enrolment from Acer C720 (and other chromebooks) [GUIDE]

Stuck with a enterprise managed Chromebook bought second hand and unable to remove it? Here is how to 'Remove Enterprise Enrollment' from Acer C720 Chromebook (and will work for others also)

The procedure is as follows (for a Acer C 720 Chromebook) however it is the exact same for most other models the only differing part is location of the read/write screw.

Step 1: Turn off Chromebook, unplug and remove all the screws from the base.
Step 2: Remove the base off and locate the read/write protection screw
Here it is on the C720 at location 7:

Step 3: Screw the base on with one screw (because there is a pressure switch that won't let you start it up without having the base on)
Step 4: Plug in and go into Recovery mode (Hold Esc + Reload and press the power key). Release keys when you see the screen light up.
You'll see "Chrome OS is missing or damaged" screen
Step 5: Press Ctrl + D then enter
You'll see "Chrome OS verification is turned off"
Step 6: Press Ctrl + D and the CB will restart into developer mode.
Note: If it tells you administrator has disabled developer mode perform a hard reset by unplugging the battery internally in the device, disconnecting the power and holding down the power button for 60 seconds.
Step 7: Once in developer mode (it'll give you a warning screen then continue to boot up as usual after a few beeps) Press the keys Ctrl+Alt+-> (F2) to launch terminal
Step 8: Enter the following commands:

chronos
sudo su
vpd -l (display serial number and device info)
vpd -s “serial_number”=”0000000000X” (write serial #, can replace 0000000000X with anything you like) must be all CAPS and numbers.
(takes about 15 seconds)
vpd -l (to check change is successful as it doesn't give you any confirmation)

Step 9: Reassemble with all screws incl read/write. Reboot and turn OS verification back on.

Step 10: Enjoy your non enterprise enrolled C720 (or other) chromebook.

Step ?: (optional if you are getting error flashromPartialWrite() clean the contacts that were under the screw with isopropyl alcohol or meths to make sure there is no continuity between the points from wear.

** Note: I am not responsible for you damaging your device in any way **

If i've helped you in any way feel free to donate via the following button. Cheers

GUIDE: Install Sony Walkman on LG-G4 (rooted, unlocked, H-815, not tested on others!)

Hello guys,

after some sleepless nights and a strong wish to throw my phone against a wall, i finally found a way to get the sony walkman Port from IBANEZ7 (thanks to him for his awesome job) working.
Everyone who already tried it will know the problem:
No matter what you do, the player either force closes or the sound enhancements just won`t work. Well, there is a way around it, even if you won`t have the newest version. The only thing that doesn`t work is the visualization.

Before starting, please read the following very carefully:
By following this guide, you will do everything on your own risk.
This is tested ONLY on the H815 international/european unbranded model with unlocked bootloader and root.
The firmware i used is this custom rom: http://forum.xda-developers.com/g4/d...d-4-1-t3213742 based on android 5.1. I would also like to generally recommend this ROM, since it`s awesome.
I`m pretty sure that this also will work with the G4 stock 5.1 firmware (maybe also 5.0) since all those walkmans gave me the exact same errors with stock 5.0, stock 5.1 and the 7 HD version, but again, it`s tested only with the 7HD 6.1 rom, so keep that in mind. As a general warning, I`m not responsible for any errors, bricks, etc and i won`t be able to help you if something goes wrong.

Now, let`s get on:
Step 1:
Make sure your phone model and software matches the description above and has the following things installed and working:

- TWRP recovery or a similiar recovery program.
- system app remover - in case you have to remove old walkman files and/or the stock LG-G4 player and equalizer.

Step 2:
Download these 3 zips and put them on your phone (SD card or internal root folder)

Walkman 2.0 by ibanez7: http://www.mediafire.com/download/cl...By_ibanez7.zip

Walkman 3.1 by Ibanez7
http://www.mediafire.com/download/7q...By_ibanez7.zip

Walkman 3.5 by Ibanez7
http://www.mediafire.com/download/bw...By_ibanez7.zip

All links are taken from his official thread here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2730431 so don`t worry.

Step 3:
Disable or deinstall ANY sound enhancement/equalizer like Viper, music FX etc. and even the stock LG-G4 equalizer. I deinstalled everything, including the stock music player and equalizer, but you can try to just disable them.

Step 4 (SKIP this if you`ve never tried to install walkman before)
Go into system app remover, give it root permission if you haven`t already, then go into system apps and deinstall the following:

- extension for wikipedia, extension for youtube, extension for youtube karaoke, extension for google song text search (all 4 have the same symbol, which is a musical note)
- clear audio settings (may have another name depending on the walkman version you tried to install, but it`s the white equalizer symbol with three switches)
- headphone chooser (headphone symbol)
- visualization
- walkman (could be named music, depending on the version you tried to install).
Since the stock LG player is also called music, search for this symbol if you don`t find a "walkman": http://www-static.se-mc.com/blogs.di...fb3d011c3d.jpg

Step 5 (Installation)

To make sure that everything you did in step 3 and 4 was correctly applied, reboot your phone and reassure yourself that everything is really disabled/deinstalled.
After doing that, reboot your phone again, but this time into TWRP recovery.
Now do the following:

- Wipe cache and dalvik cache
- Install the Zips you downloaded in step 2 in the following order (THE CORRECT ORDER IS VERY IMPORTANT, YOU CAN GET BOOTLOOP IF YOU CHANGE IT!)
Do not restart your phone or wipe cache/dalvik between the zips, just install one after another.

1: Walkman 2.0
2: Walkman 3.1
3: Walkman 3.5
4: Walkman 2.0 (yes, again!)

After doing that, just reboot your phone into system without wiping cache and dalvik. Your walkman and all it`s sound enhancements should work flawlessly now. Please note that it can take up to a minute until the sound enhancements start to working after every reboot of the phone, so be patient and just wait a little bit.

OPTIONAL (not directly related with walkman)

As an optional step, i`d strongly recommend to also follow this guide, as it will not only make the earphone output much louder, but also enhances the sound quality for some weird reason:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/g4/t...sting-t3182304
Instead of editing "mixer_paths.xml" on your phone (you will understand what i`m talking about when you read the guide) you can just copy it to the root of your phone via Root explorer and then copy it to the PC from the phone. From there, you can easily make a backup by copy and paste and also easily edit the file with "Notepad++" (do not use word, regular notepad or similiar standard windows text programs!!!). It`s much easier on the PC, since you can just bring up the search bar via STRG + F once the file is opened in Notepad++ and then simply paste <path name="headphones-advanced"> in there, so you will find the parameter instantly, instead of searching the whole text on your phone....Once you edited the "mixer_paths.xml" - i would recommend a value between 86 - 89 (94 is way too loud and gets distorted) just put it back on the root of your phone (keep a backup of the original on the PC or in a separate folder in your phone, so you don`t replace it), then go into root explorer, find the file, copy and paste it back into "root/system/etc". Now long press on the file, a menu will show up. Click on permissions and set it on RW-R-R (all three boxes checked under "read", and the upper first checked under "write", rest should be unchecked. Now you`re good to go and your phone will be loud as F--K :D
I know you probably don`t have a clue what i`m talking about, but you will understand when you read his instructions.

Have fun and be careful in what you`re doing!

[Guide] How to get Spotify premium-features on phone without Xposed or Premium

I have searched this forum and google but haven't found anyone post it yet (even though I'm sure some people have found it out by themselves).

So, I came by it by accident when I tried to unlock unlimited skips and choosing songs on free Spotify on my Z1C but Lollipop had problems with Xposed Framework back then.

It requires rooted device which is almost only significant requirement. Second minor requirement is that you need app that can change screen resolution/DPI - I have used Resolution Changer for that matter and haven't tested others but I don't see why they would work any differently.

So, I installed Spotify, then I opened Resolution Changer. I put my resolution to 4K (yup!) - I haven't tested by how much you need to raise resolution but 4K worked for me perfectly - and then I start Spotify. After logging in (if you wasn't before) Spotify works just as it does on tablet. But this thing is not usable with that high resolution, right? Damn right it isn't. But after running Spotify with 4K resolution, I can switch back to normal resolution, then restart and Spotify still runs in tablet mode. I have been using it for months like this and it never reverted back to phone mode.

Summary:
Install Spotify on your rooted device (Z1 Compact for now)
Install Resolution Changer
Increase screen resolution by fair amount (e.g. 3840x2160)
Run Spotify and verify it is in Tablet Mode
Revert screen resolution back to normal or whatever you may want
Restart phone to fix bugs that may appear in GUI from changing resolution
Verify Spotify still runs in Tablet Mode

That is it!

Note! I only tried it on Z1C but it may work on any Xperia or even any other phone for that matter. But because I haven't tried it, I post it here, into Z1 Compact sub-forum. If it does however has been posted before then please, let me know and this thread should be removed.

Another note! It does not change Spotify app layout in any way - app will continue to work as it is on any phone, just with added features of unlimited skips and choosing your own songs to play!

[GUIDE] How To Unlock Tethering on Nexus 5X.

I'll start off by saying I didn't come up with any of this method myself, its just different information I found scattered on different threads on XDA and Reddit. Maybe some other 5X users will find it useful contained in this thread.

Secondly, this requires an unlocked bootloader, also working adb and fastboot with correct drivers for your 5X, enable USB debugging. I won't go over that here, there are plenty of other guides on how to do that, and know that it will erase all your data. As long as you can find your device via "adb devices" and "fastboot devices" you should be fine.

Lastly, you will get the corrupt data message on phone startup. I don't see any negative effects with this, other than an annoying message. Also I'm still able to use the fingerprint scanner as well as set up Andoid Pay. I can't verify Android Pay as I don't have any stores near me that accept it.

You also won't have to flash any custom recovery or root the device, which keeps it closer to stock, which hopefully will allow Android Pay to still function, hopefully someone with a Android Pay store nearby can test this to verify.

First grab TWRP for 5X from here. Save it in the same folder as your adb/fastboot install.
Make sure your phone is connected to your computer, open command prompt and verify adb sees your phone.

Code:

adb devices

Now reboot to bootloader.

Code:

adb reboot bootloader

Now we boot from TWRP without having to flash/install it.

Code:

fastboot boot twrp-2.8.7.0-bullhead.img

When TWRP finishes booting, click Mount and check the box for /system

Now we need to pull the build.prop file.

Code:

adb pull /system/build.prop

Using a text editor add this line to the end of the build.prop file and save it.

Code:

net.tethering.noprovisioning=true

Now we push it back to the phone.

Code:

adb push build.prop /system/

Make sure the permissions are correct.

Code:

adb shell chmod 644 /system/build.prop

And lastly

Code:

adb shell settings put global tether_dun_required 0

Now we just reboot

Code:

adb reboot

and your tethering should be working!

I'm currently using this method and it is working for me. I'm on Verizon with a Grandfathered Unlimited Plan, so I can't test it for any other carriers.
Most of this information I pulled from this reddit thread, I just did my best to condense it down and simplify it, and make it aimed toward the Nexus 5X specifically.

edit* People are confirming on the Reddit thread on their Nexus 6 that Android Pay is still working after making these changes!

Guide to updating your H950 (US AT&T variant) to 5.1.1 via OTA

Hi, I just wanted to give everyone some information to updating to 5.1.1 as many of you are probably buying these due to the recent sales. If you don't want to root but wanted the 5.1.1 update through AT&T, here is the guide. You could also try rolling the date method but it did not work for me. I actually bought a bunch of these phones for friends and family, and I've updated five of them to 5.1.1 through AT&T OTA update, and this method is very time efficient ;)

Side note: if you have more than one G Flex2 that you are looking to update, you can update them all using just one sim and swapping them between phones.

Before you begin, do a factory reset under settings if you've already pressed software update and tried rolling the date a few times to get the update. Afterward, do not press software update until you are sure that the AT&T person has pushed the update.

Here are my steps (probably takes around 30 minutes):
1. Register for the gophone plan with the AT&T sim card and put the minimum credit into the plan. For the IMEI, put all zeroes in. This will allow you to select the monthly plan, which you ultimately won't be selecting but instead will select the 100mb daily package after your account and sim have been activated.
2. Turn the phone on with your newly activated gophone sim. TURN ON WIFI and keep it on WIFI until your update is downloaded, installed, and finished.
3. Directly call the gophone support line: 800.901.9878, and voice navigate your way to technical support (it's an automated system).
4. When the person picks up on customer service, ask them to put you through to advanced technical support, and if they ask what the call is for, tell them that you were disconnected while talking with an advanced technical support line as this will get you where you need to faster.
5. Ask the person on advanced technical support to push an update to your phone, and tell them that you've tried manually updating through the software update on your phone under settings numerous times. If they insist that they cannot push updates and you have to do it yourself on your phone, tell them that your friend has a G Flex2 with a gophone plan, and he/she was able to get the update pushed with a call to advanced technical support. If you think that the support person is being stubborn and not even attempting to try it, just hang up and try again.
6. Help the support person find the update that you are looking for by telling them the update is called H95011x. DO NOT get the H95011z beforehand, as it will not help you. Ask explicitly for the H95011x update. You can also read some more information from this page, which is the link to the page with the update information (edit: cannot post the link since I'm a newbie... Alternatively, you can find the software info page it if you type H95011x on google and look for the link to the site att.com)
7. Keep asking them to push update from their side, and you will know that they've pushed it when you go to the software update under settings on your phone and it says something different now. Instead of "look for update software" or something similar, it will now say, "continue with software update". When you press it, a notification will appear, saying "communication in progress". Tap on the button a few times to make sure that it keeps saying "communication in progress".
8. When you see "communication in progress", just leave the phone alone for the next hour or two, as the phone is downloading the update file without showing you any sort of progress bar. Keep the phone connected to wifi.
9. Come back and a notification will prompt you to install update and the phone will restart.

Hope this helps! I know that getting the AT&T OTA update can be a pain and I wished that I had some guide to follow when I was first trying to get the update.

How I got my Sprint LG G2 (LS980) to work on T-Mobile - Guide with Screenshots

I have a Sprint LG G2 (LS980) that I wanted to use on T-mobile. There is a ton of info scattered in various threads on achieving bits and pieces of this task, but nothing I could follow straight through to get it done. I did not come up with any of the info in here, I just assembled it to form a guide that I used to successfully get my LS980 working on T-Mobile. Thanks to all the hard work of everyone else who wrote the apps I used, and those who came up with the exploits that made it all possible.

(Also, I wrote this in HTML before I realized I had to use BBCode here. I used a HTML to BBCode converter, so if something looks formatted weird, let me know, I might have overlooked it)

Apps Used
Flash Stock Rom
Based on steps here.

Downloads
Install LG Drivers
  • Run the downloaded file 'LGUnitedMobileDriver_S51MAN313AP22_ML_WHQL_Ver_3.1 3.2.exe'

  • Click Next through the prompts, they require no real configuration.

  • If successful, you should get a prompt:

Quote:

LG United Mobile Driver Installed Successfully.

Setup LG Flash Tool
  • Run the downloaded file Setup_LGFlashTool_1.8.1.1023.exe

  • Click Next through the prompts, nothing needs unique configuration. It will install by default to C:\LG\LGFlashTool\

  • Copy the downloaded MegaLock.dll from earlier into C:\LG\LGFlashTool, and over-write the one that is already there.

Boot into Download Mode
  • Plug usb cable to computer

  • On the phone, hold volume up and plug other end of usb cable into phone

  • Screen will show 'Download Mode'

  • The screen will then show 'Firmware Update'

  • The device is now in Download Mode and ready to be flashed

Configure Port for Phone
  • Open Device Manager and expand Ports (COM & LPT)

  • Right click LGEAndroidNet USB Serial Port and choose Properties

  • In the Properties window click the Port Settings tab, then click Advanced

  • In the Advanced Settings window, set the COM Port Number to COM41 and click OK

  • The entry in Device Manager should show as having COM41 now.

Flash the Phone
  • Run LGFlashTool as Administrator
    • "C:\LG\LGFlashTool\LGFlashTool.exe"

  • In the Model Config window that opens:
    • Check Select Manual Mode

    • DLL:"C:\LG G2\LGLS980_20130904_LGFLASHv151.dll"

    • S/W:"C:\LG G2\LS980ZVA_01\LS980ZVA_01.tot"

    • Click Ok

  • In the LG Flash Tool screen click the Yellow Arrow to Start

  • The Port 1 box should, after a second, show Ready!

  • If the Port 1 box does not start showing processing after a few seconds, unplug the phone then plug it back in. This should start it.

  • As it processes, the phone may reboot a couple times (I never counted how many times)

  • At 94% my phone will restart, and the app will show 'Waiting 120 sec for reboot'. When the phone restarts at this point, it is loaded into the OS and waiting to be configured. I have never gotten the Flash Tool it to hit 100% successfully, despite being in the phone. I have not seen this to be a problem yet.

  • Once inside the phone, close the Flash Tool.

Root the Device
The device has to be in debug mode before it can be rooted with this method.

Enable Debug Mode
  • Open Apps| Settings

  • Select About Phone

  • Choose Software Information

  • Click Build Number 7 times. After about 4 clicks you will see feedback indicating remaining clicks until you are a developer

Quote:

You are now 3 steps away from being a developer.

  • After 7 clicks, you will see a popup that says:

    Quote:

    You are now a developer!

  • Back out to the root of Settings and choose Developer options

  • In the Developer Options, check USB Debugging

Root the device
  • Download IOroot here.

  • Extract the downloaded ioroot.zip

  • Run ioroot.bat as Administrator

  • A cmd window will launch and show:

Ethernet Mode to MTP then MTP back to Ethernet.
Sometimes unplugging USB and then plugging back in helps.

Then press ENTER to confirm ADB root...
--------------------------------------------------------

  • On the Phone, switch the USB mode to a different option, then switch it back.

  • On the Computer, press ENTER to advance the batch script

  • The batch will show:

it is likely your device firmware is not supported or
USB mode was not toggled properly. You can try to
run the script again or..
PRESS CTRL+c to stop this script...

If you DO see uid=0(root) gid=0(root) mentioned above...
CONGRATS.. Rooted ADB is now confirmed.
You will have a rooted ADB shell but no apps on the
phone will be able to access root functions.
PRESS ENTER to backup EFS and continue with full root.

PLEASE NOTE!
Continuing with full root can trip LG's rootchecker.
This means your phone will show ROOTED in Download mode.
You can remove root flag by flashing stock firmware...

Check Root with Root Checker

If nothing went wrong, the phone should be rooted now. To make sure, we can use Root Checker. (there are probably other apps that will do this as well, but I used this one)
  • Download, install, and launch RootChecker

  • In the application, click Verify Root

  • It should return back showing

    Quote:

    Congratulations! this device hasroot access!

Unlock SIM
Steps here are from this article. I am just writing it out here with notes that helped me.
Replace 'Carrier' folder
  • Within the extracted contents, copy the 'Carrier' folder onto the phones internal storage (I copied it to Internal Storage\Downloads)

  • On the Phone, open Root Browser and navigate to where the Carriers contents were copied

Note: My screenshots show me copying the files from where I copied the files to in Internal Storage\Downloads (storage\sdcard0\Downloads)
  • Click Storage

  • Click sdcard0

  • Click Download

  • Long press carrier

  • Click copy

  • Click the green back arrow until you're back at root

  • Click Paste

  • When prompted, choose to overwrite.

Note: Alternatively, you could rename the original 'carrier' folder for safekeeping... I never did though.

Quote:

carrier already exists. Do you want to overwrite it?

  • Reboot the phone.

Replaceapns-conf.xml
From original post - "To make APNs stick automatically"
Note: I later add a new APN, despite having replaced the apns-conf.xml here. I honestly don't know if this step is necessary for that reason, but I did it in my process, so I'm adding it here.
  • Within the extracted contents, copy the apns-conf.xml onto the phones internal storage (I copied it to Internal Storage\Downloads or root\storage\sdcard0\download)

  • On the Phone, open Root Browser and navigate to where the apns-conf.xml was copied

  • Long press the apns-conf.xml and choose copy

  • Navigate to root\etc, and click paste

  • When prompted to overwrite, choose Yes

Note: Again, you could rename the original to keep a backup.

  • Navigate to root/data/data/com.android.providers.telephony/databases

  • Delete/Rename telephony.dband mmssms.db

Note: I didn't actually delete the telephony.db and mmssms.db originally, and I still had success. But I also don't know what deleting those so they can be rebuilt does, so I included the steps.
  • Reboot the phone.

Update build.prop
Backup build.prop
  • Open Root Explorer and navigate to root\system

  • Long press build.prop and choose Copy, then click Paste to create a backup.

Edit build.prop
  • Download and install ROMToolbox Lite.
    • We're going to use the Build Properties application included in the Toolbox for editing the build.prop.

  • Open Root Explorer and navigate to root\system

  • Click build.prop and choose to open with Build Properties

  • If you get the Welcome screen, click OK

  • Locate and click on each of the following settings, and set the Value as shown below, and click Save

persist.service.crash.enable=1
ro.build.target_operator=spr
ro.carrier=spr

  • Reboot the phone.

Switch the Radio
  • Download and install RadioSwitcher (I only had success with version 1.2.)

  • Open Radio Switcher, and set the Preferred network type to LTE/GSM/WCDMA

Create a New APN
Despite replacing the apns-conf.xml earlier, I still ended up having to create a new APN.
  • Download, install, then open ChangeAPN

  • Click Menu and choose New APN

  • Here are the settings I used in the APN from here

Quote:

  • Click Menu then Save

  • Reboot the phone

Notes
After all of this was complete, I had the LS980 working on my T-Mobile SIM card successfully. Some other threads I've read discussed installing recoveries like TWRP to make a backup, but every time I tried, it ended up causing a boot loop, so I ultimately didn't do it. From what I can tell it is not a necessity to simply get the phone to work on T-Mobile. Once all the settings/changes have been made, I just popped in my SIM Card from my other phone and it worked fine.

Known Issues
Since we got it running on T-Mobile, there are a few issues that we've been facing.

Unable to call some numbers

When trying to make calls, ff the number does not have a 1 at the beginning, I get a crash.

Quote:

Unfortunately, the process com.android.phone has stopped.

Adding a '1' before the number has corrected it.
This article lists another possible more permanent fix, that I will eventually try out:

*To fix the issue of the com.android.phone process crashing when you don't dial a 1 in front of the number edit the /data/data/com.android.providers.settings/databases/settings.db file with a SQLlite editor and change in the "system" table "assist_dial" and "assist_dial_init_db_check" to "0". If you don't see those 2 rows then you can add them. Fix permissions, wipe cache and reboot.

Text Messages, and Multimedia Messages Fail to send
When trying to send texts, or picture messages, I was getting regular failures.
This article had a solution.
1. In dialer press ##443336772#, you will get a 6 digit SPC code, remember it!
2. In dialer press ##DATA# , this will take you to hidden Data settings
3. Select MMSC
4. Hit Edit, you will be prompted for your SPC code, enter it
5. Now have 3 options: Set URL, Gateway, and Set Port. Set all

My working settings:
Set URL: http://mms.msg.eng.t-mobile.com/mms/wapenc
Gateway: 10.12.0.2
Set Port: 80

6. Reboot
