Hello guys,
after some sleepless nights and a strong wish to throw my phone against a wall, i finally found a way to get the sony walkman Port from IBANEZ7 (thanks to him for his awesome job) working.
Everyone who already tried it will know the problem:
No matter what you do, the player either force closes or the sound enhancements just won`t work. Well, there is a way around it, even if you won`t have the newest version. The only thing that doesn`t work is the visualization.
Before starting, please read the following very carefully:
By following this guide, you will do everything on your own risk.
This is tested ONLY on the H815 international/european unbranded model with unlocked bootloader and root.
The firmware i used is this custom rom: http://forum.xda-developers.com/g4/d...d-4-1-t3213742 based on android 5.1. I would also like to generally recommend this ROM, since it`s awesome.
I`m pretty sure that this also will work with the G4 stock 5.1 firmware (maybe also 5.0) since all those walkmans gave me the exact same errors with stock 5.0, stock 5.1 and the 7 HD version, but again, it`s tested only with the 7HD 6.1 rom, so keep that in mind. As a general warning, I`m not responsible for any errors, bricks, etc and i won`t be able to help you if something goes wrong.
Now, let`s get on:
Step 1:
Make sure your phone model and software matches the description above and has the following things installed and working:
- TWRP recovery or a similiar recovery program.
- system app remover - in case you have to remove old walkman files and/or the stock LG-G4 player and equalizer.
Step 2:
Download these 3 zips and put them on your phone (SD card or internal root folder)

All links are taken from his official thread here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2730431 so don`t worry.
Step 3:
Disable or deinstall ANY sound enhancement/equalizer like Viper, music FX etc. and even the stock LG-G4 equalizer. I deinstalled everything, including the stock music player and equalizer, but you can try to just disable them.
Step 4 (SKIP this if you`ve never tried to install walkman before)
Go into system app remover, give it root permission if you haven`t already, then go into system apps and deinstall the following:
- extension for wikipedia, extension for youtube, extension for youtube karaoke, extension for google song text search (all 4 have the same symbol, which is a musical note)
- clear audio settings (may have another name depending on the walkman version you tried to install, but it`s the white equalizer symbol with three switches)
- headphone chooser (headphone symbol)
- visualization
- walkman (could be named music, depending on the version you tried to install).
Since the stock LG player is also called music, search for this symbol if you don`t find a "walkman": http://www-static.se-mc.com/blogs.di...fb3d011c3d.jpg
Step 5 (Installation)
To make sure that everything you did in step 3 and 4 was correctly applied, reboot your phone and reassure yourself that everything is really disabled/deinstalled.
After doing that, reboot your phone again, but this time into TWRP recovery.
Now do the following:
- Wipe cache and dalvik cache
- Install the Zips you downloaded in step 2 in the following order (THE CORRECT ORDER IS VERY IMPORTANT, YOU CAN GET BOOTLOOP IF YOU CHANGE IT!)
Do not restart your phone or wipe cache/dalvik between the zips, just install one after another.
1: Walkman 2.0
2: Walkman 3.1
3: Walkman 3.5
4: Walkman 2.0 (yes, again!)
After doing that, just reboot your phone into system without wiping cache and dalvik. Your walkman and all it`s sound enhancements should work flawlessly now. Please note that it can take up to a minute until the sound enhancements start to working after every reboot of the phone, so be patient and just wait a little bit.
OPTIONAL (not directly related with walkman)
As an optional step, i`d strongly recommend to also follow this guide, as it will not only make the earphone output much louder, but also enhances the sound quality for some weird reason:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/g4/t...sting-t3182304
Instead of editing "mixer_paths.xml" on your phone (you will understand what i`m talking about when you read the guide) you can just copy it to the root of your phone via Root explorer and then copy it to the PC from the phone. From there, you can easily make a backup by copy and paste and also easily edit the file with "Notepad++" (do not use word, regular notepad or similiar standard windows text programs!!!). It`s much easier on the PC, since you can just bring up the search bar via STRG + F once the file is opened in Notepad++ and then simply paste <path name="headphones-advanced"> in there, so you will find the parameter instantly, instead of searching the whole text on your phone....Once you edited the "mixer_paths.xml" - i would recommend a value between 86 - 89 (94 is way too loud and gets distorted) just put it back on the root of your phone (keep a backup of the original on the PC or in a separate folder in your phone, so you don`t replace it), then go into root explorer, find the file, copy and paste it back into "root/system/etc". Now long press on the file, a menu will show up. Click on permissions and set it on RW-R-R (all three boxes checked under "read", and the upper first checked under "write", rest should be unchecked. Now you`re good to go and your phone will be loud as F--K :D
I know you probably don`t have a clue what i`m talking about, but you will understand when you read his instructions.
Have fun and be careful in what you`re doing!
