Just got an M9 today and need some tips...

Hello everyone, I I just got an M9 at my local Telus store and I would like to be able to do everything with it like I am able to do with my M7, so I know I will need to use sunshine to get S-OFF and I would also like to be able to change everything from the rom to the kernel to the OS, everything, so I was just wondering if someone could let me know the best order to go about doing things, meaning should I do sunshine first then worry about flashing a recovery and all that, or should I do the recovery first so that I can backup the phones current state? The phone currently says this in the hboot screen:

*** LOCKED ***
LK-1.0.0.0000
OS-1.32.661.6

and this is what it says on the phones Setting-About-Software screen:

Android version
5.0.2
HTC Sense version
7.0

Now like I mentioned before, it would probably be best if I can make a backup of the phones current state just in case there are any issues, so to do that I know I need a recovery, but do I need to do the HTC Dev unlocker before I can do so? or do I have to flash a recovery first before everything else?

So if anyone could please take a minute to help me out and get me pointed in the right direction then it would be greatly appreciated... thank you very much...

[tips & tricks][emergency button combinations]

My First Post Thread On This Sub-Forum. So Please be Lenient.

A Couple of weeks ago I switched my primary device from Asus Zenfone 2 to Oneplus One 64gb.
A while before that... One of my friends who also owned a One got stuck on the boot logo after flashing an incompatible kernel. As the phone did not have a removable battery.. He had no idea how to go back into TWRP.
I figured that A few (maybe more) of the users would have the same kind of doubts for this device. And hence for them... I've made this simple guide.

SCENARIO 1:

•Phone Freezes,
•goes into SoD (Sleep of Death) ,or
• (practically anything that happens when booted into android but rendering most controls useless),or
• Phone Accidentally booted into fastboot mode without a PC nearby.

Fix it:

These can be easily fixed by forcing a REBOOT on the device.

How:

Press and hold the POWER BUTTON only for about 8-10s.
This will cause a reboot.

This method will work anywhere and everywhere on a one. This can be used to force a reboot in any situation.

SCENARIO 2:

•Phone stuck on boot logo /boot animation after incompatible ROM/Kernel/mod etc flash.
•When causing a Simple reboot won't help. And we need to boot into recovery or fastboot mode.
For this we need to first force a shutdown and then a normal reboot to either recovery or fastboot.

How:

Press and hold down the POWER + VOLUME DOWN Buttons for about 8-10s. The phone will power off.
Then
•For recovery press and hold POWER + VOLUME DOWN for 2-3s
•For fastboot press and hold POWER + VOLUME UP for 2-3s.

And That's it. We've successfully learned how to simulate a battery pull on the One.

NOTE: Please remember that these button combinations are universal. This means they can be used with any ROM or any kernel or even No ROM or no kernel.....lol.

Thanks.
