USB cable chirality? How to do with "twisted" cables?

You know how when plugged in upright, some USB cables will want to have their flat side up, and others will want to have the flat side down? In other words, if the cable us perfectly straight, my phone would have to lie face down to connect. For other called, it's the opposite. Let's call this "chirality". Why? Because that's what chirality is. Informally called "handedness ".

If you have a cable of the wrong chirality, I believe over the period of years, the constant mild strain on the phone's port might weaken it. Plus, is annoying because the cable wants to flip the phone over while you're holding it.

A 180° twist would switch the chirality. Tying an overhand knot in the end of the cable almost works well, but it twists a little too far. I could also make a lot and twist it just right, then glue it with silicone or cable glue.

I know this seems like a dumb concern, but after two years my last phone had decreased USB connectivity. Has anyone thought about this and found a good solution? I tried to explain chirality to a salesperson in the electronics market today, and she looked at me like I was crazy.

OTG cable enables USB Audio and Game Pad

I tried my OTG cable out on the S2 and plugged my wireless Sound Blaster headphones into it and it worked, I had wireless USB audio. I also noticed that the games on the S2 now only showed a game pad, using the S2 screen control was disabled! So now I wonder if my microsoft X-box game pad would work via the OTG cable. Well no, plugging the game pad's wireless controller into the OTG cable did not enable the game pad on the game. Why did the wireless headphones triggered the external game controller? Would connecting both up via a USB hub actually allow a game pad to be used on the S2?

A few questions about using the Nexus player as a cable box

Hi all,

Since the price of the Nexus player has dropped considerably, I'm thinking I may get one + a HD Homerun prime for my father for Christmas, but I have a few questions. I already have a Nvidia Shield TV, so I know how Android TV works and it's limitations. The only thing I haven't done is use the live TV apps for watching TV on it.

Is watching TV on it using a HD Homerun prime pretty painless once configured? I should note that we live in Oregon and the cable provider here is Comcast. In terms of channels, he really doesn't watch much (mostly Fox News, ESPN, HBO, and local channels). The big one that is a MUST though is Pac-12 network - my sister plays softball for the University of Washington and Pac-12 network is necessary to watch all the games we can't make it to. My understanding is that DRM channels won't work with the live TV app - is there any other way to view them on the device? I should also note that DVR functionality isn't a must have feature if it's a pain to get it working.

I'm not worried about it being too tech heavy for my dad to use - he's already got Ethernet running throughout the house (this device would be connected via Ethernet) and has done OTA TV before using Windows Media Center & my Xbox 360. However, if it isn't more seamless to browse and watch TV on than his cablebox, I'm not sure he'll actually want to make the change.
