4K/UHD Video Discussion (file specs, HEVC, offload procedures, etc.)

It seems 4K/UHD video functionality in smartphones does not get a lot of attention beyond a phone "can do it".

Does anyone have any info on the file specifications of 4K video created by the Nexus 6P - particularly video bitrate which will indicate file sizes/storage requirements?

Also, the Snapdragon 810 in the Nexus 6P apparently can support 4K playback and 4K capture using the new h.265 (aka "HEVC") compression which uses much less storage space. Any word on if this can get used with the Nexus 6P?

Finally, in light of the fact the phone does not have USB 3.0 or MHL 3.0/HDMI for a direct-to-TV connection, Chromecasting is limited to 1080p, and YouTube re-compresses 4K video uploads - what exactly is the procedure for watching the native 4K video files recorded on the Nexus 6P on a 4K television since they will be the highest quality? (This seems to be a question not necessarily aimed just at the Nexus 6P. )

As near as I can tell, you will be relying on a USB 2.0 wired connection from the 6P to offload what are potentially enormous 4K video files to external storage. If you are fortunate enough to have an 802.11ac wireless network, that could be quicker - but unless someone can link to some tests - I have not seen any Nexus 6P 802.11ac throughput numbers to see how they compare to the phone's USB 2.0 speeds.

Any comments regarding these notes would be appreciated.

Help on appending to a file

Hi guys. I am trying to save sensor data to a file and figured out how to do it. Only thing is how do I keep updating the file and append new data without over writing?

I created two functions, one for saving and one for appending:

Code:

    public void saveToFile(String accelLine, String gyroLine) throws IOException {

        File root = Environment.getExternalStoragePublicDirectory(Environment.DIRECTORY_DOWNLOADS);
        File Dir = new File(root.getAbsolutePath());
        if(!Dir.exists()) {
            Dir.mkdir();
        }

        senLine = accelLine + gyroLine;

        File file = new File(Dir, "senData.txt");

        FileOutputStream fos = new FileOutputStream(file);
        fos.write(senLine.getBytes());
        fos.write('\n');
        fos.close();
        Toast.makeText(getApplicationContext(), "Initial Data Saved!", Toast.LENGTH_LONG).show();
        newFile = 0;
        senLine = "";
    }

Code:

    public void appendToFile(String accelLine, String gyroLine) throws IOException {
        senLine = accelLine + gyroLine;
        FileOutputStream fos = openFileOutput("senData.txt", Context.MODE_APPEND);
        OutputStreamWriter osw = new OutputStreamWriter(fos);
        osw.write(senLine);
        osw.write('\n');
        osw.flush();
        osw.close();
        Toast.makeText(getApplicationContext(), "More Data Saved!", Toast.LENGTH_LONG).show();
        newFile = 0;
        senLine = "";
    }

Maybe my implementation is wrong? Could someone tell me what did I do wrong? Its my first time with Android and Java. Sorry!

I''ve already downloaded 5 times and everytime I open it and try to extract it, it always gives me an error of file corrupted. 4 out 5 times I've downloaded through Sammobile and 1 other I've downloaded from another server with the same error. Anyone had the same issue or error?

FINALLY , AT&T LG Vigor D725 Stock KitKat 4.4.2 KDZ Firmware File

Hi everyone, I've been a longtime lurker here on XDA for anything and everything I've needed for my devices, but in the six-or-so years I've been on here, I've never had anything to contribute on my own for the community. Today, however, I'm stoked to say that for the small number of people that haven't given up on the LG G3 Vigor, I FINALLY was able to obtain a stock firmware 4.4.2 file in .KDZ format direct from LG.

I, like many others on here and other G3 communities, have struggled for the past few months in trying to keep this device stable, but apparently the Vigor (more so the D725 AT&T variant, since it seems the Sprint LS885 has a little more support, but still basically next to nothing at all for both) is a redheaded stepchild or something since no one I've seen on here has been able to offer anything other an a root method for it, however I can't help but think that was just dumb luck since that root method has been proven to work on to work on ALL the G3 variants. Anyway, after almost giving up on this device after six months of not being able to find a stock firmware ROM file for it, let alone any custom ROM, I tried calling LG as a last resort with not much hope. Lucky for me though, I got a super nice rep by the name of Rachel, who immediately understood what I was asking and e-mailed me a link to the only stock firmware file they have for it - a D725PR 4.4.2 firmware file in .KDZ format.

You may notice that the model number - D725PR - isn't either of the AT&T or Sprint models. It's actually for the LG G3 Beat that was released for Puerto Rico, but it is basically identical to the D725 and LS885 minus the carrier APN settings, and of course no AT&T or Sprint bloatware. Rachel was so confident that this file was what I needed, that she wanted me to flash it while on the phone with her, and if it didn't work and I ended up with a brick, she'd open a warranty ticket to replace it free of charge since my Vigor is still under warranty (as are almost all others I think, since the Vigor was released late 2014.) I used the LG Flash Tool under Windows 10 while on the phone with the rep the whole time, and sure enough, about six minutes and two reboots later, the device booted right up to the LG setup welcome screen. I was told that since the KDZ is technically for the Puerto Rico variant, I'd likely have to manually input AT&T's APN settings for data, but it configured itself and AT&T's APN profile in the mobile network/tethering menu was already in there. Now, my device is unlocked, so I don't know if maybe that's why it configured itself on its own, but if you flash this file to factory restore or downgrade, or remove root and find you don't have your carrier's APN profile in there, just do a Google search for the settings, and you should get your data back.

Sorry this post ended up being a novel, but I'm very happy that I finally managed to score this stock firmware file after LITERALLY six months of it sitting in a drawer, pulling it out every so often in hopes that somewhere online, someone posted the file to finally get everyone flashed back to stock, but nope. I don't see why this wouldn't work for anyone else with an AT&T or Sprint Vigor, but obviously I must say I can't be held responsible if, for whatever reason, something bad happens. I hope this was able to help at least SOMEONE other than myself, because like I said, I've been using this forum for the past six-or-so years to keep up with development and learn to root whatever new device I got, but never contributed myself. This community deserves it, because no one on here has to do what they do, yet they choose to do it all for free, as a public service or something, in order to help others have a better experience with their devices. And for that, I myself am forever grateful. I hope this helps - good luck! :)

CM12.1 File Manager is using network data. Why?

Why in the world is the CyanogenMod 12.1 file manager using my data network? I don't use it for network operations. Heck, I didn't even know it was capable of network access.

This worries me a bit, as it looks a lot like malware behavior.

[Q] [MediaTek] [SPFT] What is included in file "bplguinfocustomappsrcp"

When I download a SPFT flashable Stock Rom, there's always a file beginning with "bplguinfocustomappsrcp" included.

To correct the IMEI after a flash, MauiMETA uses this file as NVRAM database.

But what information is included in this file??
Can I use the NVRAM database file from the Stock Rom from Device A on Device B, as long as the SoC is the same??
There muste be a difference, mustn't?

For example, I have these file:

BPLGUInfoCustomAppSrcP_MT6582_S00_MOLY_WR8_W1315_M D_WG_MP_V5_P4_1_wg_n
BPLGUInfoCustomAppSrcP_MT6582_S00_MOLY_WR8_W1315_M D_WG_MP_V5_P22_1_wg_n

All seem to be for the 6582 SoC. But can they be used on ALL 6582 devices as NVRAM database or is this device specific?
